On August 25, 2017, Faith in America's Save yOur Kids! campaign directly engaged the Southern Baptist Convention at their National Parenting Summit in Nashville. We worked alongside local pastors and religious leaders to organize over 100 Christian volunteers to march upon the SBC’s “Equipping Kids to Understand Same-Sex Attraction & Gender Identity Issues” breakout session that was filled with anti-LGBT speakers. We wanted to make clear: these “teachings” are harmful, not helpful.
Nashville’s CBS Channel 5 ran a story about the Save yOur Kids! campaign during their 6:00 p.m. news cycle—this is HUGE. Families all across the Nashville-metro area saw this story about the real problems happening in their backyard and in some cases their homes. Even if just one family begins to change their hearts and minds about their anti-LGBT “teachings”—then our efforts here today were worth it.
On June 12, 2017, we traveled to Phoenix to engage and educate the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention at their annual meeting. We informed the SBC on the real mental health crisis caused to LGBT kids when they grow up in non-affirming religious homes.
